Cold Spring, Minnesota

The city of Cold Spring is located at the gateway to the Chain of Lakes and has been termed by developers as “the best kept secret in Minnesota”. It is situated just west of the St. Cloud Metroplex, and is well laid out, being modern in every respect.

In 1920, John and Pat Alexander moved Cold Spring Granite Company from Rockville to Cold Spring. It has grown to become the main industr y of the community and the home of the largest producing granite facility in the world. It employs locally some eight hundred people.

The growth of the granite industry has played an important part in the continued growth of Cold Spring. With Cold Spring Granite Company now relocated from within the limits of the City of Cold Spring to their campus west of town, the impact to the city is profound. The opening of three sites for redevelopment offers unique opportunities to vastly change the city core and
to redefine the relationship between the downtown and the Sauk River.

With the redevelopment of the downtown campus, the city of Cold Spring will strengthen this area as a landmark destination for the entire region by providing valuable places for people to live, work, shop and play, in a setting that enhances the environment and celebrates its rich history.

Cold Spring Within the Region

Cold Spring is at the heart of an area known as ROCORI, which consists of the cities of Cold Spring, Richmond, and Rockville as well as the surrounding townships of Wakefield, Munson, and
Collegeville. Cold Spring enjoys numerous attributes which will enable the city and the broader ROCORI area to be a competitive location within the region for housing, employment, recreation, and cultural activities.

Proximity to Jobs – With three major employers and nearly 3,200 jobs, Cold Spring is the economic and cultural heart of the ROCORI region.

Shopping Attractions – Cold Spring supports a full-service grocer y store, hardware store, pharmacy, several medical clinics, a major car dealership, and over a dozen restaurants. For goods and ser vices not immediately available in Cold Spring, residents can travel along Highway 23 to the western edge of St. Cloud, which is where the major concentration of retail stores are located in the St. Cloud region.

Other Amenities – Cold Spring is situated along the Sauk River, which is connected to a chain of 14 navigable lakes immediately southwest of the city. These lakes are an important regional location for recreational activities, such as boating, canoeing, and fishing. Cold Spring is also

Cold Spring Granite... Our Legacy

Cold Spring Granite has been a cornerstone of the regional economy and community since the company’s foundation was laid in 1898. It was then our founder, a young immigrant Scotsman, called this area home for his newly established granite company. By 1930 the granite company was the largest in the country and continued to grow steadily even in the face of the Depression, the war years, and the changing economic conditions of 110 years of continuous operation.

The persistence and dedication of the company’s owners and our employees brought success and a reputation within the stone industry for forward-thinking and innovative ideas. Today we showcase a variety of sustainable building practices on our West campus, and gladly share the wealth of our experience with the larger community.

We have seen the Cold Spring community grow and prosper on an accelerated basis over the last 20 years. Now our home for over a century can be the change agent for community development that will continue this growth to the benefit of area residents and all of our visitors. We have been fortunate to have its use for over a century. Today Granite Landing is an opportunity to showcase the beauty, simplicity, and authenticity of Cold Spring, the heart of Central Minnesota.
